DINA History & Accomplishments

Daniel Island Neighborhood Association (DINA) was established in 1998

Daniel Island Neighborhood Association (DINA) was established in 1998

As development evolved on Daniel Island, its earliest residents, "Pioneers", came together in order to have their voices heard by the development company. The Daniel Island Neighborhood Association was formed as a part of the City of Charleston Neighborhood Council. DINA represents residents on all 4,000 acres of the island.

  • Fought SPA purchase of southern portion of the island for dredge disposal on 1540 acres 
  • Defeated SPA "Global Gateway" Port Terminal on 827 acres (Photo Credit: Daniel Island Company)
  • Worked with the City of Charleston for parks to be built including Governor's Park
  • Pursued construction of DI Recreation Center which opened in 2021
